Communion for the Sick & Anointing

De Sales is home to an active chaplaincy that serves the hospital systems of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in University City. If you or someone you know are admitted to a hospital, you should make known immediately that you are a Catholic and would like to see a priest or receive Holy Communion.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion also bring our Lord (and a weekly bulletin) to those who cannot join us at Sunday Mass. Please contact Melissa Nevadomski, our volunteer EMC coordinator, with the subject “Communion call” if you would like to receive the Eucharist at home.

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick may be received an unlimited number of times and does not require the recipient to be in danger of death. Most often, people request it before surgery, labor, during a prolonged sickness, or in dire need. Please contact the rectory (215-222-5819), and we will have a priest contact you.
